The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organized, with the cooperation of the Japanese Patent Office (JPO), WIPO Asian Regional Forum on Intellectual Property Rights in the 21st Century, in Tokyo, from September 10 to 12, 1997.
|
An opening address was made by H.E. Shinji Sato, Minister of International Trade and Industry of Japan.
|
The Forum was attended by senior officials of intellectual property and other related authorities who represented major 22 countries in the Asian region.
|
Several eminent experts in the relevant fields of intellectual property were invited to make presentations on different themes of the Forum. First speaker, Mr. Hisamitsu Arai, Commissioner of the JPO made the keynote speech titled "the 'Intellectual Creation Era' Will Shine on Asia".

Desiring to continue the regional economic growth, the Forum considered various possible trends of intellectual property rights in the 21st century and adopted the joint statement.
