The major opinions expressed by members of the committee in the course of the meeting are as follows:l |
Japan's early membership to the Madrid Protocol is requested in view of its benefits for enterprises which are developing their business overseas. Such benefits include the possibility of quickly and easily obtaining trademark rights in multiple countries and the possibility of managing trademarks directly from the main office.l |
It is hoped that Japan's affiliation will encourage that of the USA, and of the Asian nations with their numerous infringement cases. The JPO should take the lead internationally.l |
The arrangements / structure of the Madrid Protocol will be useful for small and medium-sized enterprises, who find it difficult to pay close attention to trademark protection in other countries.l
