WIPO Assemblies 2014 were Held

The 54th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) were held from September 22 to September 30 in Geneva, Switzerland. The delegation of Japan, which includes Mr. Ito, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO); and Mr. Kihara, Deputy Commissioner of the JPO, attended. The Assemblies of the Member States of the WIPO is the highest decision-making body of the WIPO, and is held during the same period every year. At the opening session, on behalf of Japan, Commissioner Ito delivered a General Statement of Japan. In his statement, he extended his heartiest congratulations on the re-appointment of Dr. Francis Gurry as Director General of the WIPO. In addition, he expressed his expectations for further strengthening relationships with industry and enhancing global IP services such as the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). During these Assemblies of the Member States of the WIPO, discussions were conducted on a variety of important issues such as appointment of the next Deputy Directors General and Assistant Directors General, and convening of a diplomatic conference for the adoption of a Design Law Treaty (DLT).
