IP Statistics Conference in Tokyo Successfully Closed

The Japan Patent Office (JPO), for the first time, hosted the Conference on IP Statistics for Decision Makers in Japan together with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in November 17 and 18, as a part of 50th anniversary events for Japan as a member of the OECD. At the beginning, Mr. Iwai, Parliamentary Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry delivered opening remarks. Mr. Tamaki, Deputy Secretary General of the OECD and Mr. Ito, Commissioner of the JPO delivered welcome address to all guests and participants. Subsequently, IP5 High Level Policy Panel was conducted, where Mr. Kihara, Deputy Commissioner of the JPO attended. On the second day, Mr. Nishimura, Executive Director of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) delivered key note speech.

Besides, the audience heard panel discussions of experts in Asia, officials from IP offices, and economists from international organizations, and enjoyed research presentations on the conference theme. During the two-day conference, active and fruitful discussions on intellectual property, economy, and statistics were observed.
