JPO Conducted JPO/IPR Training Course on Trademarks for Myanmar

December 12, 2014

The JPO recently conducted another of its JPO/IPR Training Courses, this time conducting a training program called the Training Course on Trademarks for Myanmar. This latest one was held from Tuesday, November 25th through Friday, December 5th. It was a new course designed for four candidates seeking to become trademark examiners in Myanmar, which is currently in the process of setting up its intellectual property office.

In the Course, the four trainees learned the significance of the trademark system through discussing the important role that the trademark system plays in society. They also learned the overall working procedures for trademarks, from filing up to registration.

Also, they learned outside the classroom by conducting field work to observe actual examples of how trademarks are being used. They also had an opportunity to visit a Japanese company to see how Japanese companies are actually managing intellectual property, and to visit a law firm to observe how work involved with trademarks is being conducted. In addition, they received on-the-job (OJT) training from senior examiners at the JPO and conducted practical exercises that will be useful for them in examining trademarks in Myanmar.

The trainees, by attending the training course, enhanced their knowledge and expertise that are needed for trademark examiners. In the course, they also developed good relationships with persons in Japan involved in intellectual property. The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in Myanmar.
