IP5 Heads of Office meeting was held in Suzhou, P.R. China.

The meeting of IP5 Heads of Office was held in Suzhou, P.R. China on May 22. The meeting aims that Heads approve the achievements and the outcomes that working groups, etc. have worked out and discussed concerning classification, information technology, and examination cooperation, and to exchange their views for future initiatives, further promoting IP5 cooperation.

This year, Heads actively exchanged views regarding global dossier, examination cooperation, harmonization of patent examination practices, etc.

Furthermore, alongside the main meeting, the JPO had bilateral meetings with the European Patent Office (EPO), and with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), exchanging views regarding how to proceed with future discussions on patent system harmonization, examination cooperation, etc.

Based on the outcomes of this meeting, the JPO will continue to strengthen its cooperative relations with IP5 Offices.

Results of the Eighth Meeting of the IP5 Heads of Office Held in Suzhou, China (external link)

Five IP Offices (EPO, JPO, KIPO, SIPO and USPTO)

Global Dossier: A future vision to establish a common system for providing various services in a unified manner by virtually integrating the dossier information maintained by each IP office.

Harmonization of patent examination practices: Under the framework of the IP5, the Offices have been discussing issues toward harmonization of the patent examination practices focusing on written description /sufficiency of disclosure, citation of prior art and unity of invention.
