JPO Conducted IPR Training Course on IP Administration for LDC

October 5, 2015

Under the aim of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs), the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan. The programs are designed to support the development of human resources involved with IPR systems in those countries.

From September 24 to October 2, the JPO conducted the IPR Training Course on IP Administration for LDC. This course is designed for the personnel working at the intellectual property offices in the least developed countries (LDC), aiming to help them enhance their knowledge and understanding of the importance of IP protection and the measures of its dissemination in their respective countries.

Twenty-six trainees who attended the Course heard lectures and deepened their knowledge concerning the IP protection and economic development, an overview of the industrial property rights system in Japan and the issues surrounding intellectual property in the world, and measures taken for SMEs support in Japan. Also, they visited a company to learn their IP managements. The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in their countries.
