JPO Joined 5th Philippine Anti-Counterfeiting and Piracy Summit

The 5th Philippine Anti-Counterfeiting and Piracy Summit was held in Manila on October 26, co-hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and National Committee for Intellectual Property Rights of the Philippines (NCIPR*) under the theme “Building Cooperation Across Borders.” This year, the JPO received an invitation from the IPOPHL for the first time, and Mr. Hideyuki Morooka, Director-General of the Trademark and Customer Relations Department, joined the Summit as one of the keynote speakers. He delivered a speech on the current status and actual cases of damages that Japanese companies have suffered due to counterfeit and pirated goods, and the JPO’s latest efforts against counterfeit goods.

At this Summit, the JPO was honored to be conferred an award for its continuing support to IPOPHL’s , including cooperation in the areas of capacity building, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation signed with the Philippines.

The JPO will continue to make further efforts for bilateral cooperation to advance the IP field with the Philippines.

*National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR): the multi-agency taskforce on IP enforcement comprising Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Customs, Optical Media Board, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Justice, and other agencies, established to combat against counterfeit and pirated goods.
