JPO Conducted Training Program for Trademark Examiners of NOIP of Viet Nam

October 30, 2015

Viet Nam has been experiencing a rapid increase of the number of applications, especially applications for trademark registration. Under such circumstance, the JPO has been working on strengthening bilateral cooperation based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) signed with the National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam (NOIP).

Based on the MOC, the JPO invited 10 trademark examiners from NOIP this week to offer a training program for trademark examinations, which was conducted from October 26 to 30.

Ten Vietnamese trademark examiners who attended this training program heard lectures about judgement on the similarities of trademarks and designated goods or services, the protection system for non-traditional trademarks, and the system for regional collective trademarks. In addition, 10 trainees learned trademark examination practices in Japan through case studies using actually filed applications for trademark registration, and discussions with JPO’s trademark examiners. The JPO has high expectations that the trainees would play important and active roles in the advancement of trademark examinations in Viet Nam.
