JPO Conducted on IPR Training Course
on Anti-Counterfeiting Measures for Practitioners

January 22, 2016

Under the aim of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs), the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

The Training Course on Anti-Counterfeiting Measures for Practitioners, conducted from January 14 to 22, is designed for customs officers, especially for those who are involved in intellectual property rights enforcement on their Nation’s borders.

Twelve trainees in the Course not only learned the relation between the protection of intellectual property rights and economic growth, but also visited companies and learned on site about how Japanese companies take measures against counterfeiting products. They also visited a customs and learned how the officers seize counterfeit or pirated goods on the Japan’s border. Furthermore, they had an opportunity to debate on the issues that customs of each country has been facing, which helped them gain the ability and skills to work on improving the protection of intellectual property rights in their respective countries. The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in their countries.
