IP Finance Symposium Held

February 2, 2016

The IP Finance Symposium was held on January 29 (Fri.) in the Saitama New Metropolitan Government Office Complex 1 (Auditorium on the 2nd floor).

At this Symposium, speakers focused on the significance of creating “Evaluation Reports of IP-based Businesses,” which enables local financial institutions to grasp the actual conditions of the company and its growth potential through its own intellectual properties. Furthermore, panel discussions were conducted regarding the example cases where these written evaluations were actually utilized for financing. This Symposium was held as a part of the “Project for Promoting IP-based Financing for SMEs.”

* Evaluation Reports of IP-based Businesses:
An evaluation document that describes, in details, the actual condition of an IP-based business operated by an SME company, utilizing intellectual properties, such as patents and trademarks owned by the company, and that evaluates its technological strength, growth potential and management ability. This aims that by providing written evaluations responding to the demands from financial institutions which do not have many in-house IP specialists, the SMEs’ businesses will be properly examined and reflected on the loan decisions for them made by financial institutions.

** Project for Promoting IP Finances for SMEs:
A comprehensive initiative to promote IP finances, where written evaluations of IP-based businesses of SMEs are created and provided for financial institutions that have difficulties in properly evaluating intellectual property rights such as patents, which will facilitate “visualization” of values and evaluations of intellectual property rights, and then “raising awareness of intellectual property” among more and more financial institutions, and which will eventually lead to their realization of SMEs’ technology and intellectual properties as valuable assets.
