The Third TM5 Seminar on Bad Faith Trademark Filings

March 2, 2016

The Third TM5 Seminar on Bad Faith Trademark Filings was held on March 1, 2016, at the Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall, in Tokyo, as part of the “Continuation/Expansion of Bad Faith Project,” which is one of the 13 on-going projects by Five Trademark Offices (JPO, KIPO, OHIM, SAIC, and USPTO).

At the seminar, Mr. Soichiro Kozuka, Law Professor of Gakushuin University, delivered a keynote speech. In addition, recent case examples of bad faith trademark applications filed with each of Five Trademark Offices were presented. The Seminar was attended by approximately 300 users, including IP personnel in companies, patent attorneys, and lawyers. Many of the attendees expressed their appreciation for the seminar, saying that it was very useful since they could learn the updated information about bad faith trademark filings and the Offices’ handlings of such cases.

* The “Continuation/Expansion of Bad Faith Project” aims to exchange information on laws/regulations and operational practices at each Office regarding bad faith trademark filings, as well as providing users with such information.
