JPO Participated in INTA Annual Meeting

May 25, 2016

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) participated in the International Trademark Association (INTA)* Annual Meeting, held in Orlando, FL, USA from May 21 to 25 this year, which is one of the largest events bringing together under one roof IP-related persons from countries around the world. In the workshops for IP offices, a representative from the JPO, Mr. Hideyuki Morooka, Director-General of the Trademark and Customer Relations Department, introduced its initiatives for examination quality. Also, among various lectures, the JPO held a “JPO session” and introduced the latest status of Japan’s trademark system, including the current status of applications for “non-traditional trademarks” that started being received from April, 2015. Furthermore, a representative from the Japan Intellectual Property Association reported on “Measures against Counterfeiting Goods Taken by Japanese Companies” in the same session.

Following on from last year, a “JPO special exhibition booth” was installed, where JPO Status Report 2016 and JPO’s PR DVDs containing pamphlets introducing JPO’s various initiatives were distributed in addition to displaying panels and counterfeiting goods. The booth was visited by more than 700 users.

* International Trademark Association (INTA): Association made up of more than 6,700 members from government bodies, educational institutions, and companies, etc. in 190 countries.
