JPO Conducted IPR Training Course on Trademark Examinations
under the Madrid System for Thailand

June 30, 2016

Under the aim of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs), the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

From June 24 to 30, in order to assist Thailand in its accession to the Madrid Protocol for the international registration of marks, the JPO conducted IPR Training Course on Trademark Examinations under the Madrid System for DIP Thailand officials who are involved in preparing its accession. This Course is specially designed for a particular country, considering its trademark system and the state of preparation for its accession to the Madrid Protocol, and intending to provide appropriate and effective training.

To share the knowledge and experiences that the JPO has acquired since it acceded to the Madrid Protocol 16 years ago, JPO officials gave lectures on substantive examination practices under the Madrid Protocol as well as the on-the-job training. In addition, the trainees had a chance to have discussions with patent attorneys regarding how to deal with its accession to the Madrid Protocol.

This Course is greatly expected to contribute to assisting the DIP Thailand in preparation for its accession to the Madrid Protocol as well as smooth operation after its accession.
