August 8, 2016

In order to support developing and emerging countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

From August 2 to 8, the JPO conducted IPR Training Course on Patent Examination Practices for Indonesia, targeting at Indonesian patent examiners, in order to enhance the quality of patent examinations in Indonesia. This Course is specifically designed for Indonesia, so that we may be providing trainings in a flexible manner, taking into consideration its patent system and examination practices.

In this Course, the JPO officials gave lectures on how to make examination practices more efficient, including use of JPO’s examination results by IT tools, as well as examinations of applications for which patent prosecution highway (PPH) has been requested, and its operations. Also, JPO examiners gave case study presentations on patent examination practices.

This Course is greatly expected to contribute to assisting Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) of Indonesia in their enhancing the quality of examination practices, as well as to making the trainees play more active and important roles in their countries.
