for Practitioners Specializing in Patents

September 7, 2016

In order to support developing and emerging countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, Africa, and other regions, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

From August 22 to September 7, the JPO conducted the IPR Training Course for Practitioners Specializing in Patents, targeting at practitioners who are involved with patent related operations, working at companies and law firms. This Course is designed to deepen the overall knowledge concerning intellectual property, as well as to enhance professional capabilities in patent prosecution practices through lectures, hands-on exercises, and discussions on drafting patent descriptions, utilizing patent information, handling licensing and patent infringement lawsuits.

A total of 21 trainees attended this two-week training course, through which they were able not only to gain specialized expertise but also to deepen friendship among trainees and develop good relationships with persons in Japan involved in intellectual property. The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in their countries.
