JPO had Bilateral Meetings alongside WIPO Assemblies

Commissioner Komiya and Deputy Commissioner Koyanagi were actively involved in meetings with heads of other IP offices during their attendance at the WIPO Assemblies 2016 in Geneva, exchanging opinions regarding international harmonization, PPH, IP-related cooperation, and other important topics. Bilateral meetings were held with heads of IP offices and other relevant institutions of more than 20 countries and regions*1. The JPO concluded a memorandum of improving the effort for exchanging data on patent information with WIPO, launching a PPH program with Argentina, and Cooperation for Facilitating Patent Grant (CPG)*2 with Lao PDR. In addition, at the meetings with Turkey and Chile, the JPO signed MOUs on the cooperation to further fortify the cooperative relationship in a variety of fields with the respective countries.

Before attending the WIPO Assemblies, Commissioner Komiya visited the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) in Munich. The JPO agreed to exchange data on patent information with the DPMA and signed an agreement.

  • *2 CPG: Cooperation for Facilitating Patent Grant
    Through this cooperation, a patent right is granted, upon the request of an applicant, substantially with no examination on the ground of the corresponding patent granted by the JPO through the examination of the corresponding application at the JPO.
