On October 21, a group of joint researchers from P. R. China, who have been working in the JPO commissioned research project,* including Mr. WU Handong, Professor of the Center for Studies of Intellectual Property Rights of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and Mr. LI Mingde, Professor of the Intellectual Property Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO).

They paid a courtesy visit to JPO Commissioner Komiya, exchanging opinions regarding the future direction of IP-related cooperation between Japan and P. R. China. In addition, they had an exchange meeting with administrative judges of the Trial and Appeal Department. The JPO introduced its practices regarding trials for invalidation in the case of infringement litigation, the procedures concerning trials for recession on the ground of nonuse of a trademark, and the system of judicial research officials in Japan. Furthermore, both parties had an opportunity to engage in discussions regarding topics they were interested in, intensively exchanging opinions with each other.
