JPO Patent Examiners Trains Newly Employed Thai Patent Examiners

October 26, 2016

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been implementing various cooperation programs in the field of intellectual property in Thailand on the basis of the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between the JPO and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Commerce of Thailand in May 2015. As part of such cooperation programs, four patent examiners from the JPO have been sent to Thailand to give a training course to some 20 new patent examiners who were just employed in October 2016.

The dispatched patent examiners are giving lectures on “Prior Art Search,” “Substantial Examination” and others from October 24 to November 4. Furthermore, they are to provide a training course on how to train new patent examiners for senior patent examiners who are responsible for training them. The JPO provides this inclusive training course to the foreign patent examiners for the first time.

By contributing to further enhancement of practical capabilities for patent examination overall in Thailand, the JPO would be able to expect that the period of examination at the DIP of Thailand will be reduced, which will make it easier for Japanese companies to obtain patent rights smoothly in Thailand.
