JPO Conducted Training Course on Patent Examination Practices for South Africa

February 2, 2017

In order to support developing countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, Africa, and other regions, to provide training programs for them in Japan.

From January 20 to February 2, the JPO conducted the "Training Course for South Africa on Patent Examination Practices" for those who will engage in patent examinations in the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission(CIPC) in South Africa.

Nine trainees who attended the Course learned about general patent systems including patent examination guidelines in order to improve their expertise required as a patent examiner, and conducted hands-on exercise on patent examination.

The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will be active in the field after going back to their countries.
