JPO Conducted IPR Training Course for IP Protection Lawyers

February 22, 2017

In order to support developing countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia Pacific region, Latin America, Africa, and other regions, to participate in training programs for them in Japan.

From February 6 to 22, the JPO conducted the "IPR Training Course for IP Protection Lawyers" designed for judges and lawyers specializing in intellectual property from various countries.

Twenty trainees who attended the course heard lectures concerning comparison of legal systems in their respective countries, methods of judging the infringement of industrial property rights, and appeal/trial cases of the infringement of IP rights, etc. and visited a company and the Intellectual Property High Court in order to enhance their expertise as legal professionals involved in IP rights.

The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will be active in the field after returning to their countries.
