Deputy Commissioner Koyanagi of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) visited Mumbai, India and had a meeting with Mr. Gupta, Controller General of the Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM) of India on May 24.

In the meeting, they signed a new Action Plan that includes initiatives such as conducting a training course in India for new examiners and sending JPO officials to India, who are experts in the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH). These are being initiated as follow-up programs to those conducted in line with last-year’s Action Plan. They also agreed to further strengthen the close partnership between the two offices.

On the following day, 25 May, Mr. Koyanagi visited Delhi, India and exchanged opinions with Mr. Aggarwal, Joint Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry of India, regarding future cooperation in the field of industrial property.

The JPO will continue to further make efforts, in cooperation with the DIPP and the CGPDTM, to improve the environment in India that will enable IP rights to be quickly and smoothly obtained and properly protected.
