JPO Conducted Training Course on Substantive Examinations of Trademarks for Viet Nam.

June 28, 2017

Under the aim of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights in order to support developing countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

From June 22 to 28, the JPO conducted the Training Course on Substantive Examinations of Trademarks for Viet Nam. This training course was designed for Vietnamese trademark examiners, aiming to raise the overall level of professional expertise of trademark examination in Viet Nam.

A total of 10 trademark examiners attended this course and received the lectures on “Judgement of Similarity of Trademark, Goods and Services” and “Protection System for Non-traditional Trademarks”. In addition, trainees had an opportunity to learn examination practices of trademark through case studies using actual application examples and discussions with the JPO’s trademark examiners.

The JPO has high expectations that the trainees would play important and active roles in the enhancement of trademark examination capabilities in Viet Nam.
