JPO Conducted Training Course on Establishing Patent Examination Guidelines for ASEAN

September 11, 2017

Under the aim of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights in order to support developing countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

From September 4 to 11, as part of the ASEAN regional cooperation, the JPO conducted the Training Course on Establishing Patent Examination Guidelines for ASEAN, and a total of 18 staff in charge of examination guidelines from 9 countries attended the course. In this course, trainees learned examination guidelines and practices of Japan as well as shared information and conducted discussions among their countries, in developing appropriate examination guidelines according to patent systems in each country.

The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in their countries.
