WIPO Assemblies 2017 were Held

October 3, 2017

The 57th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) were held from October 2nd to 11th in Geneva, Switzerland. The delegation of Japan, which includes Ms. Munakata, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO); and Mr. Shimano, Deputy Commissioner of the JPO, attended the meetings. At the opening session, on behalf of Japan, Commissioner Munakata delivered a General Statement from Japan. In her statement, she spoke about forging a new era for the intellectual property system, the so-called IP4.0 (Intellectual Property 4.0), which should overcome challenges resulting from the development of new technologies. In addition, she expressed her expectations for WIPO as an international organization which plays an important role. During the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, discussions will be conducted on numerous important issues such as various yearly reports.
