JPO Conducted JICA Training Program: IT Training Course for DGIP

From December 11 to 14, as part of the “Project on Intellectual Property Rights Protection and Legal Consistency for Improving Business Environment in Indonesia*” run by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the cooperation of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the JPO conducted the JICA Training Program: IT Training Course for DGIP, targeting at trainees from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) of Indonesia.

In this training program, based on the experience of system development of the JPO, the JPO shared the necessary knowledge to promote formulation of IT system in the future DGIP, such as the method of project management, system development corresponding to revision of laws and regulations and measures for information security. The JPO also shared the JPO’s experience of system development for connecting with the “WIPO-CASE” which is the Dossier mutual reference system provided by WIPO and the “WIPO-DAS” which is electronically exchanging system for priority documents.

Through this Training Course, the trainees were able to improve their professional capabilities concerned in a system in order to achieve more quickly and accurately examination environment in the DGIP. Also, they deepened understanding the importance of cooperative relationship with the JPO. The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in Indonesia.

* Project on Intellectual Property Rights Protection and Legal Consistency for Improving Business Environment in Indonesia: This project aims to enhance legal consistency in the intellectual property system and to strengthen the system of protecting intellectual property rights in Indonesia, by providing support for execution and enforcement agencies with enhancing examination quality of intellectual property, increasing in predictability for the disposition of intellectual property cases, improving the execution and control systems, etc. The JPO has sent an expert on a long-term basis, giving advice and instructions for the DGIP of Indonesia.
