JPO conducted Training Course on Trademark Examinations Under the Madrid System for Malaysia

January 31, 2018

Under the aim of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights in order to support developing countries with the development of human resources who engage in the industrial property rights system, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been inviting trainees from developing and emerging countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Africa, and conducting training programs for them in Japan.

From January 11 to 17, the JPO conducted the Training Course on Trademark Examinations under the Madrid System for Malaysia, targeting at 10 Malaysian trademark examiners, in order to assist Malaysia in preparing for its accession to the Madrid Protocol for the International Registration of Marks. In this training course, the JPO shared the experience in acceding to the Madrid Protocol and the knowledge acquired after the JPO acceded to the Protocol with the trainees. In addition, they deepened their knowledge pertaining to procedural practices under the Madrid System through lectures, such as on-the-job Training (OJT) by the JPO officials.
The JPO has high expectations that the trainees will play important and active roles in their countries.
