JPO Had a Meeting with IPO

November 2, 2018

On November 1, 2018, the delegation of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO)*, led by Executive Director Mark Lauroesch, visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO) to exchange views with Mr. Takashi Yamashita, Director-General of the Patent Examination Department (Electronic Technology), and other members of the JPO. At the meeting, they actively discussed various topics, such as the JPO’s initiatives responding to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Collective Examination for Intellectual Property Portfolio Supporting Business Strategy, and work sharing efforts including Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) and the US-JP Collaborative Search Pilot Program.

The JPO will further plan and promote international initiatives based on the information obtained from this meeting.

  • * Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO): An U.S. industry trade association that was established for the interests of IP rights owners with the aim of promoting protection of IP. The IPO’s members consist of individuals and corporate entities involved in IP, including around 100 large and medium-sized companies, as well as around 250 small companies, universities, independent investors, and lawyers.
