FY2014 “Intellectual Property Achievement Awards”

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Patent Office chose individuals and corporations for the FY2014 "Intellectual Property Achievement Awards" to honor their contributions to the development of the intellectual property rights system in Japan. Award winners of this year were four individuals and four corporations for Award from Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and four individuals for Award from Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office.

1. Outline of "Intellectual Property Achievement Awards"

In order to contribute to further disseminating and raising awareness of the intellectual property rights system through honoring individuals and corporations that have contributed to the expansion and development of the intellectual property rights system in Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Patent Office give “Award for Contributor Concerning the Intellectual Property Rights System” to individuals who have contributed to the development and dissemination of the intellectual property rights system as well as raising awareness thereof, and give “Award for a good-standing company Utilizing the Intellectual Property Rights System” to corporations which have most effectively taken advantage of the intellectual property rights system and contributed to its development. “Both are called the "Intellectual Property Achievement Award."

2. Winners of Award

In this fiscal year, four individuals and four corporations received Awards from Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and four individuals received Awards from Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office.

On April 18th, the Invention Day (an anniversary of the Patent Monopoly Act established as the first substantial patent law in Japan, which was promulgated on April 18th, 1885), the award ceremony was held as follows.
