Francis Gurry Appointed for Second Term as WIPO Director General

Francis Gurry, the incumbent Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was appointed to a second six-year term of office as Director General of the Organization, by the General Assembly of WIPO held on May 8, 2014.

Japan has great expectations that he will continue to show his leadership in the next term in WIPO, and looks forward to his further efforts in developing the global intellectual property system.

The JPO is committed to further promoting harmonization of the international intellectual property system by working in close cooperation with WIPO. Furthermore, the JPO aims to improve user convenience even further by making it easier for users to file international applications based on expanding the use of the international application system for patents and trademarks. In addition, the JPO is formulating regulations so as to provide users the convenience of filing only one application to register their designs in multiple countries.
