Follow-up Seminar Concludes in China

A follow-up seminar was held in China in Guangzhou city, Guangdong Province on March 11, 2013. The event was organized by the JPO, State Intellectual Property Office of P.R.C. (SIPO), Guangdong Provincial Intellectual Property Office (GIPO), Guangdong IPR Research and Development Centre and APIC-JIPII.

This was the first time for the seminar to be held in Guangzhou city, and the fifth time total in China. The last seminar in China was held six years ago, in 2007.

Around 110 people joined the seminar, mainly including participants from SIPO’s Guangdong Patent Examination Cooperation Center, IP offices around Guangzhou city, law firms, universities, etc.

The theme of the seminar was “The Use of IPR for Economic Development”. Opening ceremony speeches were given by SIPO International Cooperation Department Deputy Director General Mr. Liu Jian, JPO International Affairs Division Regional Policy Office Director Mr. Kosuke Minami, and GIPO Coordination and Administration Division Director Ms. Xie Hong.

Four speakers from China and three speakers from Japan delivered lectures, which were each followed by Q&A sessions. Many participants actively asked questions to the speakers, regarding matters such as local brand creation, patent evaluation, existing types of government support for SMEs, etc. Some participants asked questions that went beyond the extent of the seminar program, revealing their interest regarding a wide range of topics
