FY 2017 Follow up Seminar in Viet Nam

The JPO held two seminars in Viet Nam in October, one in Hanoi on Oct. 3rd and another in Ho Chi Minh City on Oct. 6th. The theme of the seminars was “Development Trend and Commercialization of Patented Japanese Technologies in Early 21st century”. In total there were approximately 200 attendees who included many individuals from the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP), patent attorneys, and persons involved with IP at universities and research institutes, among which were many former participants of the JPO training courses held in Japan.

The seminar began with a keynote speech by the NOIP on the trends in registrations of inventions in Viet Nam. The JPO then followed by explaining the current state of industrial property rights administration in Japan. IP practitioners from Japanese companies and professors from Japanese universities then gave presentations on trends in innovative developments and commercialization of patented Japanese technologies. They also talked about improvements that were made to the IPR system to further promote investments. Vietnamese lecturers from the NOIP and universities gave presentations on the type of IPR system that is needed in Viet Nam to encourage the creation of inventions and innovations, as well as advance the acquisition of IP rights and commercialization of new technologies in Viet Nam. Once all the lectures were completed, Q&A session was held, which included active discussions between the lecturers and attendees.

In addition, on October 4th in Hanoi and 5th in Ho Chi Minh City, the JPO had a meeting with former trainees to hear their opinions and gather useful information that will help the JPO in planning future training programs.

The JPO looks forward to the further success of the former JPO trainees, as well as all IP related professionals in Viet Nam.
