The damage caused by counterfeiting in foreign markets has been mounting in recent years.
The flood of counterfeit products has meant the loss of market share, the downgrading of brand image in the eyes of consumers, an increase in product liability trouble, and other adverse effects for our nation's corporations. In order for Japanese corporations to stay active in foreign markets, aggressive measures must be taken against counterfeit products.
Since it is essential to understand the status of damage caused by counterfeit products in order to plan effective measures against counterfeiting, the Japan Patent Office has been conducting surveys through questionnaires on the problems associated with the damage caused by counterfeiting.
