PPH pilot program between the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights (DGIP)

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) have commenced the PPH pilot program since 1 June 2013.

Since 1 June 2016, the trial period has been extended for three more years, and the trial period will be extended as necessary.

【Notice of Change】

The Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights (DGIP) has made the below change to the filing requirements for a PPH request, effective March 1, 2017.

Thus far, a PPH request has been accepted by the DGIP anytime, however, an applicant is now required to file a PPH request at least 6 months from the publication date due to this change.
