The 2nd Trial and Appeal Expert Meeting (TAEM) and the 1st Administrative Judge Exchange Program were held between the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO) on June 29 and 30, 2016 in Beijing, China. The Meetings were attended by Mr. Kunihiko Shimano, Director-General of the Trial and Appeal Department of the JPO with his colleagues, and Mr. Ge Shu, Executive Director General of the Patent Reexamination Board (PRB) of the SIPO (Head of the trial and appeal department) with his colleagues. At these Meetings, administrative judges exchanged information on the trial and appeal system of each country and the relevant statistics, discussed issues on practices through the exchange program, and exchanged opinions based on the comparison of the differences on trials for invalidation between the two countries. In addition, the JPO and the SIPO confirmed the importance of deepening their cooperative relationship and mutual understanding in the field of trials and appeals.

The JPO will continue to actively foster various exchange programs with other Offices in the field of trials and appeals, endeavoring to improve transparency in the dispute resolution system across the world.
