WIPO Assemblies 2019 Being Held

The delegation of Japan, which includes Mr. Matsunaga, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and Mr. Shimano, Deputy Commissioner of the JPO, is attending the 59th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) which held from September 30th in Geneva, Switzerland. At the opening session, on behalf of Japan, Commissioner Matsunaga delivered a General Statement. In his statement, he referred to the dissemination of innovation based on advanced technology, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) , and the contribution to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), as roles that should be played by WIPO. He also presented Japan's international initiatives in the IP field. The Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO will be held until October 9th and discussions will be conducted on numerous important issues, such as various yearly reports.
