October 23, 2019

On October 15, 2019, a delegation led by H.E. U Aung Htoo, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, met Mr. Akira Matsunaga, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and discussed the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

At the meeting, they confirmed to further enhance the cooperation on the establishment of an Intellectual Property Office in Myanmar.

Deputy Minister also shared views with Mr. Susumu Iwasaki, Director-General of the Patent Examination Department (Chemistry, Life Science and Material Science) of the JPO, on the application of information technologies in examination practices.

The JPO will continue to strengthen its cooperative relationships with the respective ASEAN Member States, including Myanmar, and strive to improve the situation surrounding intellectual property in order that IP rights will be obtained smoothly and protected properly.
