JPO Hosted "International Symposium on Patent Examination Practices on AI-related Inventions"

On November 20, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) hosted the International Symposium on Patent Examination Practices on AI-related Inventions.
At the beginning, Director-General KATSURA of the JPO Patent Examination Department (Mechanical Technology) delivered opening remarks and presented an overview of the current situation relation to AI-related inventions. During the sessions, the initiatives taken by IP5 offices and ASEAN countries and the advisable protections of AI-related inventions from industry perspective were introduced.
In the panel discussion, experts from the IP5 offices presented how each office determines the patentability, introduced which points applicants should pay attention to for patent-right protection, and discussed what each office should work on for raising the predictability of the patent eligibility.
