On July 21, 2020, the IP5 Heads of Office Meeting was held in the form of a video conference, and Mr. Kasutani, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), attended the Meeting.
At the Meeting, the Heads reaffirmed the importance of protecting intellectual property rights that support innovations to cope with COVID-19, and exchanged their views on measures undertaken by each office to mitigate the negative impact on procedural and other aspects of convenience for applicants and inventors. In addition, the Heads reached an agreement on some initiatives, including the scope of IP5 cooperation in New Emerging Technologies/Artificial Intelligence (NET/AI) fields that will be worked on.
