Video Conference Held between JPO and AIPLA

July 28, 2020

On July 28, 2020, a video conference was held between the members of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and those of Japan Patent Office (JPO). Mr. Kasutani Toshihide, Commissioner of the JPO, attended the meeting. At the meeting, the JPO and AIPLA exchanged opinions on some of the JPO’s initiatives, such as patent examination case examples of AI-related inventions that Japan announced for the first time in the world.

The JPO hopes that obtaining an understanding of Japanese practice in patent examination of AI-related inventions, which is a global issue, will lead to harmonization of examination procedures worldwide.
