November 18, 2020

On November 16, Mr. Kasutani, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), delivered a speech by video message at the opening of 44th session of Administrative Council of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) (*1) held in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Council is a meeting where Ministers of State for Intellectual Property (IP) and Director Generals of IP Offices meet together for discussions on policies and plans for ARIPO's activities.

In his speech, Commissioner Kasutani announced that the JPO will continue to maintain and further develop close cooperative relationships with ARIPO and member states, and promote the continued cooperation necessary to enable autonomous and sustainable growth throughout the entire African continent.

Going forward, the JPO will continue to develop and improve an environment in which IP rights of companies are promptly/smoothly secured and appropriately protected in the African Region, by promoting cooperation with the IP Offices in African countries.
