Exchanged Opinions with USPTO and Key People

February 26, 2018

On February 23, Ms. Munakata, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office, visited the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in Alexandria, Virginia, and exchanged opinions regarding the cooperation between the USPTO and the JPO with Mr. Iancu, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, newly appointed on February 8. This discussion with Ms. Munakata was his first meeting with the chief officer of a foreign patent office.

Then, Ms. Munakata visited Washington D.C., to have a discussion on IP enforcement with Mr. Amin, the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC). She also exchanged opinions regarding international arbitration with Mr. Rader, a former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC).
