1. Introduction

The 10th TRIPO user symposium is going to be held online this year. The Japan Patent Office (JPO) hosts the event, inviting the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).

Our purpose is to introduce initiatives for diffusion and promotion of carbon neutral technologies by the TRIPO and case studies regarding the development and diffusion of carbon neutral technologies through strategic use of the patent system, and to discuss the role of IP toward achieving carbon neutrality.

Daren Tang, Director General of the WIPO

Daren Tang, a national of Singapore, began his six-year mandate as Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on October 1, 2020. Prior to his appointment as WIPO Director General, he served as Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), driving the strategic transformation of IPOS in support of Singapore’s innovation-based economy.

Between 1997 and 2012, before joining IPOS, Daren Tang held different legal positions within the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore. In 2016, he received the Public Administration Medal from the Prime Minister's Office Singapore for outstanding efficiency and competence in the service of his country.

Daren Tang is a graduate of the National University of Singapore (Bachelor of Law, Honors) and the Georgetown University Law Center (Master of Laws, Distinction). He also attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is fluent in English and Chinese.

FUKUDA Satoshi, Director of International Policy Division, JPO

FUKUDA Satoshi has been working in the intellectual property field ever since he joined the JPO in 1995. He has performed various positions such as a patent examiner and an administrative judge, utilizing his technical knowledge. In addition, he has diverse experience in the International Policy Division at the JPO. He has also held various posts outside the JPO, serving as Director of the Intellectual Property, Trade Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and Counselor for Industrial Competitiveness, Secretariat of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters at the Cabinet Office.

LIU Jian, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department, CNIPA

Mr. LIU started his professional career in 1994 working at the International Cooperation Department of CNIPA (previously SIPO), and since then he has been mainly responsible for IP cooperation with other countries, regional IP organizations and WIPO. Over years, he has organized and participated in many major international IP activities and conferences, including bilateral and multilateral IP negotiations.

Mr. LIU graduated from Beijing Forigh Affairs College with Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Liberal Arts degrees. He then obtained his Master of Law degree at Edinburgh University, the United Kingdom. He was also a visiting scholar at Kyusu University, Japan under the WIPO Fellowship programme. He is now a member of CNIPA’s National IP Experts Think Tank.

He is also a board member of the Japan Intellectual Property Association and the Japan Marketing Association.  He specializes in intellectual property and its peripheral areas (marketing, branding, and healthcare).

He has held a number of public positions, including as a visiting researcher at the Research Office of the Committee on Economy, Trade and Industry of the House of Councilors, and as many other positions.

As for his research activities, he has recently proposed the concept of “Intellectual Property as a marketing tool. He is also well known as the inventor of "Copiperner," a patented plagiarism detection system specialized for Japanese language that is widely used at universities and other institutions throughout Japan.

Jieun has worked in Kim & Chang for four years and has been working as an intellectual property strategic manager in LG Chem. for seventeen years. Mrs. Lee obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 2000 from Seoul National University in Korea. She also got master's degree in law from Chungnam National University and has completed the course of Ph.D. in intellectual property Law from Sungkyunkwan University. In 2020, she completed her Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) at The University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law in USA. Her long-term objective is to facilitate an integration of technology, law and business with the goal of enhancing the value of IP committed to the competitiveness of company.

Mr. WANG Weili was born in 1985, and is currently the Deputy General Manager of Sunman (Zhenjiang) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. His main responsibilities include development, test and the introduction of the new photovoltaic materials; development of new materials’ suppliers, new materials manufacturing equipment; development and certification of the assembly and the new installation methods. He is also in charge of the daily operation of the test center and the IP related issues, etc.

Mr. WANG has undertaken a number of projects on the core photovoltaic materials and has gained dozens of scientific and technological outcomes and transferred the outcomes into high-tech products. He has participated in the formulation of the group standard of the Technical specification for solar Photovoltaic and thermal heat pump.

Mr. WANG has 38 granted patents with 21 inventions, 16 utility models and 1 design.
