The seventh conference of the international conference for the theme of African development, the “Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7)” (Link to External Website) will be held at the Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama City from August 28 to 30, 2019.
As official side events of the TICAD7, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) will hold a Panel Discussion and a Seminar on African IP Systems on the main theme of “Achieving and Living the African Dream with IP,” as well as set up a booth.
The Outline of each side event is as follows.
Based on the notion that new technologies, ideas, and branding are all powerful business tools and valuable intellectual-property rights as well, local startups will offer suggestions on how to make use of those tools and IPRs in business and discuss the draw and appeal of innovations born in Africa.
Africa’s transformation from a source of resources into a source of innovation is drawing global attention. In this seminar, IPO executives will provide the cutting-edge IP information which Japanese companies urgently need but often struggle to acquire to protect their inventions and brands when they arrive in Africa or tie up with local partners.
The booth will exhibit information on cooperation with Africa by WIPO and JPO and on the latest information on Africa’s economy and IP. In addition, videos of interviews with companies doing business related to Africa will be shown, cooperated by the companies. Attractive products will also be exhibited at the booth.
