User session on Trademarks at the TM5 Annual Meeting 2014

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has worked on international, cooperative efforts involving the trademark system under the framework of the Trademark Trilateral since 2001, which was formed among the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Furthermore, since 2012, the JPO has advanced these efforts under the newly established cooperative framework of the TM5, which includes two more offices, namely the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the State Administration for Industry & Commerce (SAIC) of the People's Republic of China.
This year, the TM5 Annual Meeting will be held at the Tokyo Prince Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, on December 3 – 5, 2014. In particular, at the User Session on Trademarks on December 5 (Fri) during the Meeting, the JPO plans to have representatives from each TM5 office make presentations about their respective offices on “Recent Developments in the Field of Trademarks”. The JPO also will hold a panel discussion on protection for “Non-Traditional Trademarks.”
For the first time at any Trademark Trilateral Meeting and TM5 Meeting, the general public also is being invited to attend. The User Session will be open to anyone interested in the trademark systems in Japan, the U.S., Europe, China, and Korea. We sincerely look forward to seeing you at the Session.
