AI-related inventions discussed at the Second Japan-ASEAN Patent Experts Meeting

On September 9, 2021, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Intellectual Property (IP) Offices of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member States held the Second Japan-ASEAN Patent Experts Meeting via video conference.

Participants held a lively discussion during the meeting based on the patent examination practices of each ASEAN Member State, taking into account the JPO’s case examples regarding the determination of AI-related inventions. Additionally, all participants shared the same recognition of mistranslation issues for patent application documents.

The JPO will continue to hold this meeting and deepen mutual understanding of patent examination practices together with the IP Offices of ASEAN Member States.
