On November 1st to 2nd, 2021, the Seventh ID5 Annual Meeting was held online, which consists of Industrial Design Five (ID5), namely, the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). The Meeting was hosted by CNIPA, and Mr. Yasuda, Director-General of the Patent and Design Examination Department of the JPO, attended the Meeting.

The main outcomes of this Meeting are as follows
ID5 had the following discussion in order to promote the provision of information and to improve the user-friendliness of the design system.
The Offices agreed to publish a user catalog on the ID5 website for the "Study of Quality Management by ID5 Offices" and to publish a study report on the ID5 website for the "Study of design Non-Patent literature data resources among ID5 Offices" as well.
The Offices agreed to continue to exchange information on exchanging priority documents electronically in the field of designs through the Digital Access Service (DAS) system of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) used by ID5 in the "Study of Priority Document Exchange by ID5 Offices"*i .
The Offices also discussed the next steps for the following projects: "ID5 Statistics", "Study on the Admissibility of Internet Information as Legitimate Disclosure for Novelty Examinations", "Recommended Design Practice", "Joint Communication Action", "ID5 Website", and "ID5 5 Year Review".
*i Projects on "Study of Quality Management by ID5 Offices", "Study of design Non-Patent literature data resources among ID5 Offices", and "Study of Priority Document Exchange by ID5 Offices" have been completed as they achieved their initial goals.
ID5 Offices adopted a new cooperative project to create an Informative User Guide for the View and Drawing Requirements of Designs.
The ID5 discussed the draft for 2021 Joint Statement of the ID5 Partners, which sets the following goals of cooperative initiatives.
A user session was held for the representatives of users from industry organizations and agent organizations. Each Office reported on the latest status of the design, as well as users presented their views based on their experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each Office introduced their specific initiatives in response to the pandemic.
The JPO, in order to establish a framework in which excellent designs can be more adequately protected and effectively utilized worldwide, will collaborate with other ID5 Offices more closely and continue advancing the cooperative initiatives, in response to the needs of users.
