From December 6 to 10, Mr. MORI, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), delivered a speech by video message at the opening of 45th session of Administrative Council of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) (*1) and 18th session of Council of Ministers of the ARIPO held in Zimbabwe. The Councils are meetings where Ministers of State for Intellectual Property (IP) and Director Generals of IP Offices from ARIPO member states meet together for discussions on policies and plans for activities of each organization.
In his speech, Commissioner MORI announced that the JPO will continue to further promote its initiatives of active support for African countries from the IP aspect, which is based on recognition that it is important to develop and improve a business environment through enhancing IP rights protection, so as to enable autonomous and sustainable growth throughout the entire Africa.
Going forward, the JPO will continue to develop and improve an environment in which IP rights of companies are promptly/smoothly secured and appropriately protected in the Africa, by promoting cooperation with the IP Offices in African countries.
