Japan Session at IP Week: Discussing how to utilize
intellectual property in the game industry

September 21, 2022

On September 7, 2022, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) collaborated with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to host a hybrid-style Japan session during the annual intellectual property (IP) Week event, which is organized by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). The JPO has been hosting a Japan session since 2016, wherein it shares information with both Japanese and non-Japanese persons working in the IP field.

The Japan session this year was titled " Games X IP", and focused on the game industry’s integration of various cutting-edge technologies such as VR (virtual reality) and AI.

After the opening remarks from JPO Commissioner Hamano, a Japanese IP information consulting firm and a game industry group introduced IP applications and utilization within the game industry today. Next, the JPO introduced initiatives related to the examination of advanced technologies such as AI. Additionally, a panel discussion on how to utilize intellectual property in the game industry was held with a moderator from Asian game-related companies.

It is expected that this session will deepen knowledge of IP initiatives within the game industry, thereby assisting businesses in Japan and other Asian countries.
