October 12, 2022

On October 5, 2022, a WIPO Regional Meeting of the Directors of Industrial Property Offices in Latin American Countries was held in Lima, Peru. The meeting was co-hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) of Peru, and was attended by Mr. KATSURA Masanori, Deputy Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO).

This meeting was held under the support of the WIPO Funds-in-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global, which was set up by voluntary contributions that Japan has made to the WIPO. Representatives of intellectual property offices from 16 Latin American countries * participated in the meeting, where they exchanged views on future cooperation in the field of intellectual property.

During the meeting, Mr. KATSURA gave a lecture on cooperation in the field of Intellectual Property between the JPO and the Intellectual Property Offices of Latin American countries. During the panel discussion, he also mentioned the issues facing Intellectual Property Offices in the digital age, as well as the future prospects in this regard.

The JPO will continue to promote cooperation with intellectual property offices in Latin American countries to develop an environment in which the intellectual property of Japanese companies can be quickly and smoothly secured and properly protected within the Latin American region.
